Trinity Lutheran Green defeats Wesley United 12-8

TLC-Green however stumbled out of the gates at Wesley's strong offense dominated early. Wesley's first 3 batters reached base in the top of the 1st. Tristan Fielder and Landon Urias both had base hits. Wesley put 3 runs on the board in the top of the first and followed it up with one more in the second. Wesley shut out Trinity in the first two innings with the help of outstanding catches by Syndney Gonzales in left and Becca McBee in right field. TLC-Green finally got on the scoreboard in the 3rd. Jacob Ryan tripled in Sara Rinehart, and then Ryan scored on a hit by Cody Hassell, cutting the Wesley lead to 4-2. TLC-Green would take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 5th with a 5 run outburst. Kasey Gill led the way with a single, followed by hits by Bethany Mulanax, Josh Hoffman, and a triple by Elliott Robertson. Wesley would NOT go away however as they took back the lead with a 4 run 6th inning, highlighted by 3 solo home runs by Efrain Urias, J.D. Delgado, and Jesse Delgado. It was Jesse Delgado's 2nd home run of the game. Going into the bottom of the 6th, Wesley clung to a narrow 8-7 lead. TLC-Green however had the answer as they quickly loaded the bases with hits by Sarah Rinehart, Jacob Ryan, and Cody Hassell. Trinity Lutheran Blue and Mt. Zion tie 10-10 in spectacular game.
Mt. Zion and TLC-Blue were not ready for their season to end as both teams fought for 6 innings before the game was called because of darkness, finishing in 10 all tie. The game was exciting from the opening pitch, as Paul Hardaway from Mt. Zion smacked an inside the park home run to right. Mt. Zion then added to their lead in the top of the 2nd with 3 more runs. Randy Morrison doubled, and John Nieman and James Mauldin both had base hits. Mt. Zion's defense held TLC-Blue early as Darin Merveldt helped turn 2 double plays. TLC-Blue started chipping away at the 4-0 Mt. Zion lead by scoring a run of their own in the bottom of the 2nd. Cody Hassell doubled and was hit home by Paul Cheyne's scorching shot to right field. After shutting down Mt. Zion in the top of the 3rd, TLC-Blue rallied for a big inning, scoring 5 in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 6-4 lead. The rally was highlighted by a Jason Cheyne walk, hits by Katie Cheyne, Landon Cheyne, and Steve Pickett, and a Andrew Webber double.
TLC-Blue used great base running throughout the night to help their cause. Mt. Zion's offense got consistent as they scored 2 runs in each the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings. Paul Hardaway continued his outstanding season with a double and 2 singles. Kate Lagaly also helped the Mt. Zion cause with a walk and a base hit. Going into the bottom of the 6th with darkness looming, TLC-Blue trailed Mt. Zion 10-8. They quickly cut the deficit in half when the first batter of the inning, Andrew Webber, hit an inside the park home run. This was followed by a single by Katie Cheyne. She was quickly knocked home off a Cody Hassell triple. With no outs, the score was tied at 10 with Hassell on 3rd. That is when John Nieman, the Mt. Zion pitcher, buckled down. He struck Jason Cheyne. Landon Cheyne came up with a chance to win it but popped out to short stop Randy Morrison to end the game.
TLC-Blue finishes the season with a record of 4-7-1 and a 6th place finish. Mt. Zion completes their season with a record of 3-8-1 and a 7th place finish. --
