Youth and Family Ministry Notes From Josh...
High Moments over the last month-
· Mission El Reno taking shape- This summer a new and exciting opportunity for growth is coming to El Reno in the way of 200 youth and a mission camp. This July, the churches of El Reno will be banding together to offer a weeklong mission camp for the youth of Oklahoma. This will be a great way to enrich and serve our community. If you would like to know more or get involve, please contact me!
· Movie Nights @ Church- We had over thirty people attend our December movie night- “The Nativity Story.” We also showed the inspirational movie, “Soul Surfer.” Thank you to Loren O’Hara for making the popcorn to go along with the great movies.
· National Youth Gathering officially a year away- It’s 2012 now, which means we can officially say the Senior High National Youth Gathering is NEXT YEAR! The youth who are eligible to attend have been contacted. We will begin fundraising this month with our Superbowl Subs. We are also in need of interested chaperones who would like to attend the event to be held in San Antonio, July 1st-July 5th, 2012.
What’s Coming Up:
· Superbowl Subs- The Superbowl is here and it’s time to pick up your subs! All subs can be picked up in the church basement at noon on Sunday, February 5th. We usually have a few extra subs if you forgot to place your order. The cost for a 8 inch sub is $5.00 and all the proceeds benefit TLC-Youth.
· Winterjam Christian Concert- On Saturday, February 18th, we will once again be attending the Winterjam Christian Concert. For only $10, we will be able to see Skillet, Sanctus Real, Newsong, Peter Furler, and MORE! This activity is open to all age levels. A sign-up has been put on the church bulletin board. Please sign up if you plan on attending!
· “Courageous” Movie Night- This month we will once again be showing an exciting movie, this month’s offering is “Courageous.” The movie will be shown on Friday, February 24th at 7:00pm. This movie is from the same studio that produced “Fireproof” and “Facing the Giants”. This movie chronicles 4 police officers who excel at their jobs but settle for good enough when it comes to fatherhood. A horrible tragedy brings them together and helps them realize what it really takes to be a father. This is a great movie for the WHOLE family, but especially for dads.
Start Thinking About:
· Youth and Preschool Raffle- The raffle will not be until March, but it is never too early to start planning. Is there anything you could donate? Tickets to an event? Gift certificates? Home-made items? Please contact Diane Bomhoff or me.
· VBS- That’s right, VBS is still 4 months away, but it takes A LOT of planning when we can again expect over 100 kids. This year’s theme is “Sky- where everything is possible with God.” The theme will feature planes, hot air balloons, and everything that goes up. If you have any decorating ideas or props you would like to donate, please let me know! VBS will take place Monday, June 11th through Friday, June 15th.
Please Pray For:
· The youth eligible to attend the 2013 National Youth Gathering. The youth gathering is an amazing opportunity for spiritual growth. Pray for them to consider attending this amazing Lutheran get-together.
· The sick and suffering- January and February are generally the worst weather months in Oklahoma. This also coincides with lots of illnesses. Remember those struggling with sickness.
· Our Sunday school teachers. They all do such an amazing job at helping educate our youth and adults about God on a weekly basis. We are blessed to have them and their continual contributions to our congregation.
